This Magazine Wants Men to Stop Wearing Shorts Above Leggings in the Gym
If it serves girls, it serves boys, says this recent Men´s Health publication, why can't men wear leggings without shorts in the gym?
The article recognizes that it is something "daring" to wear a pair of leggings without a short covering (you will find men with the look of leggings under their shorts in your nearby gym), the writer Brett Williams talks about how leggings are the wave of Future for men who want to make the most of their workouts.
Do you remember when long and baggy shorts were fashionable? Well, after that, the style was reduced to the tightest joggers, and now the leggings, are the next step in this evolution of sportswear.
To be clear, Williams is not saying that men should get rid of that extra layer of shorts they wear on top, if they don't feel comfortable or just don't want to. What he means is that there is no reason for the stigma surrounding the use of leggings without the shorts on top. What makes sense, since there is no practical benefit to that short layer added in the first place. In any case, those shorts are only restricting your movement, aren't they?
But he acknowledges that many men are not interested in a look that shows their attributes with leggings, including their boss, Men’s Health editor-in-chief Rich Dorment, who says: "Leggings = always, but ONLY with shorts on top."
Even Zac Efron, whom Williams interviewed earlier this month, had something to say about men who wear leggings with nothing on top: "If you like it and it works on ... I feel I have to put something on or I feel too much exposed".
It seems that many boys feel intimidated by wearing a pair of tights in the gym if they don't put their shorts on. But those guys are too worried about what other people might think instead of why they are exercising in the first place.
However, the most important thing, for all men, is to feel as comfortable as possible when exercising. If you don't feel well with a pair of leggings to go to the gym, then you shouldn't wear them.
But you should know that if the day comes when you feel like not putting on your shorts and living your best life in the gym with leggings and a sleeveless shirt, you have all our support, and that of Brett Williams.
What do you wear for the gym? And what do you think of a ‘leggings’ look without shorts on top?
