Do not wear a bra, dangerous for your health?
Do you think bras are uncomfortable, and are you used to not wearing them? To believe a specialist, this may not be such a good idea ...
Going out without a bra is a trend that has been increasingly adopted in recent years. Especially since the emergence of the "Free The Nipple" movement in early 2014, which fights against censorship of the female body and to desexualize the nipple of women. This movement was supported by many celebrities, who posted photos of their topless breasts on social media - very quickly censored.
Not wearing a bra would cause many symptoms
But not supporting your chest could be bad for your health, according to a recent interview by Australian media 9Honey. Paula Svodoba, fitting specialist for the lingerie brand Triumph, warns of “the symptoms associated with not wearing a bra, or not wearing the right size”.
These include “headache, neck and back pain, stretching of the ligaments and chest pain. Not to mention the irreversible subsidence effects. " On average, a woman’s chest weighs about a pound, and bras are designed to support this weight. In the absence of lingerie, it is therefore the back that must support it.
The risks are the same for women with small breasts, or who wear an ill-fitting bra
And according to Paula, the risks also exist for those with small breasts. "Women often think that the sag is due to the size of the breasts, but that is not the case," she said. "It is the tension due to the movement of the chest that causes the stretching and sagging of adipose tissue and ligaments, whatever your cap."
However, many women find their bras uncomfortable. According to the specialist, this is explained by the fact that a large majority wears undersized lingerie. "If the underwire squeezes you or your straps keep slipping, you are wearing the wrong size," she said. "Each bra should feel like you're not wearing it."
At the time of the fittings, she therefore recommends leaving her shyness aside and asking the advice of a professional, in order to find the lingerie best suited to her morphology. And if the frames disturb, you can remove for a bra, provided that it is properly adjusted.
Going topless, really risky?
Paula's arguments seem however to go against the followers of the “no-bra”, who after several years spent without a bra, do not really report a sagging of the chest, nor a loss of firmness or possible pain. On the contrary, some of them have observed a firming of their breasts.
Furthermore, studies have shown a relationship between the daily wearing of the bra and several health problems, sometimes serious. For example, a 2016 study and another in 2018 show that wearing this underwear increases the risk of lymphatic stasis and breast cancer. Work on the merits of this accessory is lacking.
Better, therefore, it seems, to make up your own mind, through scientific readings, but also quite simply, by listening to your body. And it starts with feeling comfortable in your clothes.
