White House's Veiled Swipe at Royal Family and Princess Kate Over Photo Edit

Prince William and Kate Middleton found themselves in a bit of a photo controversy, and oddly enough, it ended up echoing a situation involving Joe Biden's White House. In what seemed like a subtle jab, the White House took aim at Princess Kate over her apology for editing a photo.  It appeared that the administration couldn't resist poking fun at both Princess Kate and the monarchy after she owned up to editing a picture of herself and her children. The future queen apologized, citing "confusion" caused by the release of the altered photo on Mother's Day.

During a press briefing, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked if the White House would digitally manipulate a photo of the President and other US officials. Her response sparked some laughter in the room. "Edit a picture digitally? No, that's not to my knowledge. Were we really going to do that? Are we discussing the current events in the United Kingdom? Jean-Pierre made a joke. She clarified further. No, it is not what we do in this place."

The incident prompted several news agencies to retract the photo amid concerns of digital tampering. This scandal surrounding Kate's edited family snapshot adds another layer to the complex relationship between the media and the British royal family. In response, CNN announced it would review all images issued by Buckingham Palace and the Royal Family in light of the uproar surrounding Princess Kate's photo.
