Royal expert and author Tom Quinn suggests that an invitation to the Balmoral getaway could pose difficulties for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. "If the invitation becomes a real invitation – and it is almost certainly to do that - both Harry and Meghan will find themselves in a very difficult position," explains Quinn. He points out that the couple is highly conscious of their public image and recognizes the positive perception that would arise if they were to set aside their pride and return to the UK.
However, Quinn acknowledges that Meghan still desires an apology from William, King Charles, and Kate, making it challenging for her to let go of her grievances. On the flip side, she would not want to be seen as holding a grudge due to the potential criticism that may follow, as Meghan strongly dislikes criticism. Quinn notes that she can fall back on the children's needs as a reason for not being able to attend Balmoral when making her apologies.
Sources close to Kensington Palace have reportedly informed Tom Quinn that 75-year-old King Charles has hinted to Harry and Meghan about the possibility of them coming to Balmoral in the summer to address the ongoing family feud. The monarch is said to be hopeful for a positive response and a chance to resolve the tensions within the family during the retreat at the royal estate.
