11 fashion trends that should disappear in 2020
Fashion in 2019 consisted of recycling old trends, some of which had disappeared from our cupboards for good reason. Stars, stylists and influencers began to wear accessories that were fashionable in the 90s, such as big scrunchies, tiny sunglasses and branded hair barrettes. The total fluorescent look and the big sneakers have also become cool again, but hopefully won't be around for long.
Here are the popular fashion trends in 2019 that should disappear.
Large sneakers, dubbed 'dad sneakers', are back in fashion after Balenciaga released their pair of Triple S Trainers.
After being fashionable in 2018, the trend for "dad sneakers" continued to be everywhere in 2019. The stars often preferred large, wide and unflattering sneakers over heels, but American stylist and TV host Cindy Conroy told Insider that the trend for these sneakers "is about to disappear".
The blue work overalls were among the biggest trends of spring 2019.
Influencers and stars wore denim, sleeveless blue work overalls with turtlenecks underneath, and even baggy jumpsuits, like Rihanna's look during Paris Fashion Week.
It is because these suits are so easy to wear that the blue working style has been in fashion, but the trend is outdated.
The barrettes marked with major fashion brands were impossible to miss.
In 2019, the trend was for hair clips with words that could describe your mood of the day, like "extra" and "feels" (which could be translated as "at the top" and "too many feelings"). The high-end brands have even launched their branded versions of their name for those who wanted to show that they wore the brand. But it is time to leave this trend in the closet.
Cyclists have become way too trendy because of the Kardashians.
Women's cyclists, very fashionable in the 90s, were talked about again after Kim Kardashian West and her other sisters started to wear them. While these tight shorts were everywhere in 2019, the trend is already fading, so don't expect to see them in 2020.
The total neon look was originally fashionable in the 80s and 90s.
Wearing a neon color from head to toe started to become trendy in 2018 and continued to be so until 2019.
Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Kylie Jenner adopted this fashion before switching to more neutral colors instead.
PVC heels were fashionable in 2019, but they are not comfortable.
When Kanye West launched the Yeezy PVC sandals, it became THE pair of shoes you should have for celebrities. The craze for transparent heels continued with the release of mules, flip-flops, pumps and boots.
Now that people have realized how uncomfortable these shoes are, this fashion is unlikely to reappear in 2020.
Big darlings have become trendy again, and many people wear them like bracelets.
Jason Momoa and Dakota Johnson both followed the trend in 2019.
In 2019, the darlings were also on the wrist of all the girls who adopted the style nicknamed "VSCO girls", but you can expect to see less in 2020 since this fashion for teenage girls born on the Internet is already in the process of fade.
Tartan costumes are a bold look, but often too-much
Tartan is a bold design that can often be overbearing - and it can make it look like you're wearing the costume, not the other way around.
Tie and dye was the trend no one had asked to see this year.
Lyst, an international fashion research site, said "tie-dye" was one of the fastest growing keywords in search engines during the year, as reported Harper's Bazaar in June.
Big fashion brands like Prada, Proenza Schouler and Stella McCartney presented collections filled with tie-dye, but as few people have recently been seen following this trend, chances are it will disappear in 2020.
Tiny sunglasses were everywhere, despite the fact that they were not practical at all.
Sunglasses with tiny glasses continued to gain popularity in 2019, even if it doesn't mean anything since they don't really protect your eyes from anything. You probably won't see the trend return in 2020.
The bamboo bag was the must-have accessory for influencers in 2019.
Influencers were deeply into the "wooden bags" trend, whether pink, white or natural bamboo. But this type of bag is not practical to carry over the shoulder or to fill, and the trend will probably not resurface in spring or next summer.
