The men's skirt: I got started !!

My first outing in a skirt!
With all my thoughts (see previous episodes on the blog, 1st and 2nd parts ...), and when I was in my fifties, I thought to myself, "What prevents me from putting on a skirt? If I don't do it now, I will never do it. ”

And one fine autumn day, I decided to take this step and put (finally ...) a skirt on the street. I went on a Saturday morning to a town near my home with a denim skirt, opaque black tights (it was cool) and black flat shoes (men's). Above, a white t-shirt and a men's jacket (my goal is not to disguise myself, as I explained earlier, but to wear skirts while remaining a man). I walked around the city, the pedestrian streets:

- I went to several clothing stores to buy several skirts, simple style, easily portable by a man. The sellers guided me very well, took the time to make me choose and try out several models of skirts. They advised me on colors (skirts and tights), because this search for harmony of colors is not natural in a guy !! The saleswomen received me without any remark, or even warmly in several shops.

- I bought food in a small organic store and started talking to the seller, there too naturally.

- and finally, I went shopping at the local supermarket, and apart from the slightly surprised look of a little boy in front of my tights, RAS.

None of the traders I came across and whom I spoke to looked embarrassed or critical; the conversations were completely normal.

In conclusion, no problem, no comments, a few looks but nothing more. It’s all about being yourself, being natural.

And a certain pride accompanied this first outing: the impression of being a kind of pioneer, a little like the women in the 20th century, who dared to defy the ban on pants !!!

Some anecdotes
Since this first outing, I have multiplied the walks by renewing this "experience":

- by walking around several afternoons in town, wearing for example a denim skirt with bare legs in summer, or a brown skirt, black opaque tights, the rest (t-shirt, coat) being masculine, and making multiple purchases (pharmacy, perfume, clothing, etc.). No remark or strong look from the traders, but in the clothing stores, always a very natural attitude of the sellers (some are getting to know me!).

- I drank glasses on the terrace in plain view without any concern. - I went out in a skirt a good ten times in pedestrian streets, in shopping centers, in stores ... I think that in a crowd, 90% of people do not even notice that you are in a skirt, or s 'don't care. At most, people say to themselves, "Look, this guy in a skirt is weird. An original ! "

There are a few astonished looks, but that's it! And keeping a frank and self-confident look, everything is fine.

- I noticed that the only negative comments (that is to say laughter) come from small groups of young teenage girls (15 or 16) who say to themselves: "Have you seen the guy in a skirt? ". On the contrary, young women approached me, surprised, complimenting me on my outfit.

- I have one last revealing anecdote to finish: being in the "automobile" department of a large supermarket, a lady comes up to me and asks me for advice to buy bulbs for her car. So I helped him find what he needed and we spent 10 minutes chatting. During this whole discussion, she was never embarrassed (nor me). Although wearing a skirt, she spoke to me because I am a man, and a man is reputed to know more about car mechanics than a woman ... CQFD !!!

What about the future? My hopes?
In conclusion, I hope that, at last, the men's skirt will descend from the catwalks of designer fashion shows (it's a very good start!) And arrive in the ready-to-wear shelves of mass circulation. It’s my hope! Because the greatest reluctance is not in the street, it is in his family, his entourage, who wonder. Yes, my hope: that mentalities change !!

This is unfortunately why you will not see my face in the photos (I read your disappointment ..., but I am sorry)

Otherwise, one word for all those who hesitate: "Dare! "The more we are, the more the men's skirt will be accepted, as the pants are now for women. By wearing pants, the ladies remain feminine. It is the same for a man in a skirt.

And to respond to comments heard on the subject, it is not a question of "courage" to dare to go out in a skirt. No one is going to eat you, just be ready for some taunts. Rather, it is about assertiveness: "You want it, do it!" Life is too short "
