In the prerecorded video, the Duke of Sussex presented the award while wearing his own collection of medals, including the Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan, the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal.
Notably absent was the King's Coronation medal, a deliberate move according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams. "The fact that Harry chose not to wear the Coronation Medal is quite extraordinary," Fitzwilliams remarked in an interview with The Sun.
Aware of the scrutiny they face, Fitzwilliams suggests that the Sussexes are mindful of the attention given to every aspect of their appearances and actions. By opting not to wear the Coronation medal, Harry's decision may be interpreted as a snub towards King Charles, further fueling speculation about the relationship between the father and son.
Fitzwilliams further notes that Harry's choice to prominently display his military medals indicates his closer affinity with the military rather than the Royal Family.
"It is undeniable that he has always regarded the military as an extended family," Fitzwilliams explains. "He has paid tribute to it and considers it a pivotal part of his life. When appropriate, he proudly wears his medals, which has been a subject of controversy in the past."
The omission of the Coronation medal in the video message has added another layer to the ongoing discussions surrounding Harry's relationship with the monarchy and his commitment to the military community.
