10 myths of the bra that you probably believed all your life
Those of us who depend on a bra to keep our bust in the right place know that with a great support comes a great responsibility. As in finding the right bra, wash it, wear it during the right time of day or night, and treat it as it deserves to be treated.
But what if everything we know about bras is wrong? Or at least something wrong? Here are some of the most popular brassiere myths we learned from our parents, grandparents, Victoria’s Secret partners and friends:
1 Sleeping with a bra causes cancer and prevents your breasts from growing
Do you sleep with your bodice? I slept with mine when I was a sweet newbie in this great bra world. After telling a friend that I didn't take it off before going to bed, she whispered to me that sleeping with a bra was DANGEROUS and that CANCER married. But, according to Dr. Amber Guth, there is no way that sleeping with your bodice is bad for you. "Certainly there is no evidence that sleeping with a bra is good or bad"
2. But also, that sleeping with your bra keeps your breasts firm
NOPE Sleeping with a bra will not mutate the cells, nor will it stop your breasts from eventual sagging. A bra holds them to give you the shape and look you want, but it cannot prevent them from falling, this is produced by age and gravity.
3. Bras with rods = cancer
This idea may come from the book 'dress to kill' (Dessed to kill), published in 1995. In it the writers Sydney Singer and Soma Grismaijer proclaimed that wearing tight bras every day could eventually lead to cancer (which is apparently , a recurring theme when talking about breasts and bras) But according to The Scientific American, there is no evidence to support this claim. It is simply not logical in terms that it could increase the risk of breast cancer.
4. If you strategically exercise your breasts, you can hold them firm
Even if you do a trillion push-ups and pull-ups and lift all weights, your breasts will remain the same as they are. That's because the breasts are made of fat, and you really can't mold the fat. What you can do is work your chest. Some exercises help improve the appearance of your chest area by working in ligaments that surround it.
5. Only wash your bra once a month or less
Maybe you've heard that you should wash your bra once a week. Or two a month. Or almost never. Perhaps this confuses and stuns you, so you avoid buying more bras, but you end up with the same problem with your mountain of new bras: when do you wash them? And how often?
This seems to be a conflicting issue. An eBay ‘underwear’ expert said it really depends on your lifestyle. “Depending on a woman's personal hygiene and lifestyle, a standard bra can be worn a couple of times before it needs to be washed. Some women who sweat more may need to wash it more often, but washing it after each used is not necessary. ”
Lexie Sachs said that washing your bodice after three or four used should be fine. But don't wait until your bra is smelly and disgusting. "Washing removes the oil and germs that accumulate, so the more oil you produce, the more frequently you need to wash it."
6. You need to use a special detergent to wash your bras
Supposedly washing your bras with an ultra mild detergent prevents cracking or wear. However, these types of detergents are made for soft wool, so they should not be used on elastic fabric, because you want the elastic to remain firm or not?
7. If you put your bra in the washing machine, it will destroy it
If you learned something about bras, it is probably this: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES YOU GO TO THE WASHER HOLDER BECAUSE BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN
But how unpleasant it is to wash it by hand? Really too much. According to Cosmopolitan, as long as you are careful and wear appropriate equipment (softener, a bag to put your bras before you throw them in with the rest of your load) and hang them to dry them (sorry, you can't escape this) , your underwear should be as much as possible without being destroyed.
8. Bras have uniform measures
If you buy bras in a store it does not mean that in the next one you are the same size, a 34 C is not the same in Victoria’s Secret as in Zara. It simply is not. Each brand has its own measure. In addition, you can be different sizes in different types of bras even in the same brand.
So, make sure you get your bra size every time you buy one.
9. If you have big breasts be prepared to wear ugly bras for the rest of eternity
IT'S NOT TRUE, GIRLS, IT'S NOT FOR ANYTHING. If you have big breasts you can definitely find a nice, sexy and fun bra. You just have to be prepared to pay a little more.
10. There is only one ‘correct’ way of putting on a bra
There is a great discussion about how to put on a bra correctly. In fact, there is a debate of proportions on reddit. You can fasten it forward and turn it back later. Or put it on one chest at a time. You can buckle it back if that's the way you want. The options are endless.
